To the followers of Jesus today who are hurting & alone on National Coming Out Day:
Jesus sees you today in your silence when many do not. Can you believe it? He knows firsthand what it’s like to live at the intersection of the world and the cross. Can you believe it?
He’s heard the same voices you do. Those beckoning “be true to your spirit” and he’s listened as they grew louder, nearly drowning out the voice of the Spirit whispering, “dying to yourself is the only way to live”. So he made a choice that redefined our future. He gave himself up on a Roman cross. Now, he lives immeasurably for you, can you believe it?
On a day like today, the pain presses deeper, and the voice of the Spirit may seem distant. But today, know that Jesus sees you. Your identity in Jesus—his brother, his sister— runs deeper than your sexuality, even in a moment that treats them as one and the same. Can you believe it?
On the way of Jesus, what seems like death is really life, and what seems like life is really death. The way is hard, taking all ourselves and submitting to his rule and reign, and it’s easy to lose your way. Because of that, no disciple should walk this way alone.
We his people, his body on earth, stumble & stutter. We have sometimes spoken to defend, but not always to rescue. We have often built walls, not longer tables. You haven’t always found someone to walk the way of Jesus with you. Let today be the day that changes. I’d love to help, or help you find a friend to walk with you.
You can believe it: Jesus lives for you everyday, and especially today. Will you believe it?
